Children usually cannot sit and talk through therapy like most adults do. Successful therapy with children looks a little different. When working with children, I utilize play instead of speech, which allows children to understand themselves, process their feelings and experiences, and improve their relationships with others in a way that feels natural and engaging to them.
Involving families is often key in making changes in a child's feelings and behaviors. I have experience conducting family therapy sessions that help family members figure out when to set limits and when to compromise, and bring them to a better understanding of each other so that they can live more joyfully and peacefully together.
The clients I have worked with in the past range in age from 4-18 years old. Common issues faced by previous clients include behavioral issues at home or school, facing changes in family or general life structure, trauma, anxiety, depression, and ADHD. I have worked at a school before and understand how to effectively work with school administrators, teachers, case managers, and psychiatrists.
